About Beginning BandWelcome!
Beginning band is a course to help upper grades students begin playing a wind instrument in an ensemble. Whether you played in middle school and haven't played since or have never played a wind instrument, this course will help you continue your journey or get you started. You can choose from woodwind instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, and oboe. Or, you can choose from brass instruments such as trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone horn, or tuba. We also have spots for percussionists. It also aims to develop your ability to think critically about music-making, musical context, and the future role of music in your life and society. This is an introductory-level course that requires no musical experience, just a strong interest in learning how to make music with a wind instrument in an ensemble setting. After completing this course, students may be eligible for the next level course: Wind Ensemble. A copy of the course letter is below.
